ChatRadar assesses 58 random video chat platforms in its Safety Index, 49 of which appear in the 18+ comparison grid. Platforms that permit users under 18 are scored but deliberately excluded from the grid, because the grid carries commercial links and those platforms should not. Every data point behind every comparison comes from hands-on testing carried out by the ChatRadar editorial team. This page explains exactly what gets tested, how scores are assigned, and what has no influence on either.
What Gets Tested
Every platform is evaluated hands-on, not from marketing copy, across eight data dimensions: free tier availability, signup requirement, gender filter, country filter, mobile app support, video quality and support, age requirement, and payment model. A reviewer actually creates a session, checks what’s free versus what prompts a payment screen, tests the signup flow if one exists, and confirms whether a mobile app is available on iOS, Android, or both. None of these eight fields are self-reported by the platforms themselves.
How Safety Scoring Works
Alongside the eight data dimensions, every platform is scored on our Safety Index across four factors: moderation system quality, account accountability, match verification, and age policy. A platform earns a higher score by combining strong automated detection with a human review process, meaningful age enforcement rather than a checkbox, and some form of match verification rather than relying on moderation alone.
The highest score on the Index right now is CooMeet at 93, followed by Yubo at 89 and Camsurf at 75. No platform has scored 100, and that’s intentional: a perfect score would require flawless real-time detection, verified identity, consistently effective reporting, and airtight age enforcement all at once, and no platform has combined all four to that standard yet. Tier letters (A through D) group platforms by rough scoring bands, A being the strongest combination of moderation and verification, D indicating minimal moderation infrastructure.
How the Comparison Grid and Smart Match Work
The homepage comparison grid lets visitors filter all 58 platforms by any of the eight tracked dimensions and pin up to four platforms for a direct side-by-side view. The Smart Match tool asks a short set of questions about what a visitor is looking for, then weights the eight dimensions according to those answers and surfaces the top three platforms with a computed percentage match. The scoring is mechanical: a visitor’s answers set the weights, the underlying data does the rest. No platform is manually inserted into a result.
What Isn’t for Sale
No platform pays for a better safety score, a higher position in the comparison grid, or a better Smart Match result. Placement and scoring are both derived entirely from the tested data described above. Where ChatRadar includes a sponsored link, such as the CooMeet link used on several comparison pages, it’s disclosed with a sponsored attribute on the link itself and never affects that platform’s score or tier. A platform’s review, score, and tier are the same whether or not a sponsored relationship exists.
How Often Data Gets Updated
Reviews are revisited when a platform changes its pricing, filters, or moderation systems in a way that would change its tracked data. The Safety Index and comparison grid reflect the most recent confirmed review for each platform, not a one-time assessment from whenever it was first added.
