Chat Alternative scores 42 out of 100 in ChatRadar’s testing, a Safety Tier C built on user-report moderation and no signup requirement. It’s completely free, and the honest trade-off for that simplicity is a genuinely bare interface — two buttons and nothing else, with no filtering of any kind.
What Chat Alternative Actually Is
Chat Alternative is a lightweight, Omegle-style random video chat platform built around exactly two controls: START to connect, STOP to end and find someone new. A text chat option exists alongside video for anyone who’d rather type. There’s no profile, no filter menu, and nothing to configure beyond those two buttons.
Against most of our full ranking of all 49 platforms, Chat Alternative’s minimalism is the clearest differentiator — even competitors with no signup usually offer at least a filter or two. This one doesn’t, by design, which makes it as close to the original Omegle format as anything in our grid.
How It Works
- Go to chatalternative.com in any browser, or download the Android app.
- No registration is required — the site loads straight into the chat interface.
- Allow camera and microphone access, or switch to text chat instead.
- Press START to connect with a random stranger.
- Press STOP at any time to end the session and search for someone new.
- Report any user through the platform’s basic moderation tools if they break the rules.
What It Costs
Chat Alternative is entirely free — there’s no payment required for video chat, text chat, or the mobile app, and no signup step gating any of it.
That puts it squarely alongside platforms with no cost at all in ChatRadar’s grid, with the caveat that “free” here also means no paid option to add filtering later.
Safety
Chat Alternative scores 42 out of 100 in ChatRadar’s testing, a Safety Tier C, reflecting user-report-based moderation and no signup requirement, backed by moderators the platform describes as enforcing basic rules against nudity and spam.

Who It’s For
Chat Alternative fits someone who wants the absolute simplest version of random video chat, with nothing to configure and nothing standing between opening the site and talking to a stranger. It’s a reasonable pick for anyone specifically nostalgic for the original Omegle format.
It’s not for anyone who wants any kind of filtering, paid or free. There’s no way to narrow matches by gender, country, or interest here at all — what you see is what the platform offers.
Where It Falls Short
The honest downside is the complete absence of filtering — not gated behind a paywall, just not there. Combined with moderation that relies entirely on user reports and no signup step adding accountability, Chat Alternative offers fewer safety and customization levers than most competitors at this safety tier.
